You may not yet recognise the name, but if you are a true fan of the UK scene then it is certainly possible you have heard Carni’s bars before. First picking up to the mic in 1995, Carni could be found MC-ing on pirate radio and at various Jungle raves in and around London under the name of Nice MC. After putting in the groundwork, Carni was snapped up by London's premier pirate radio station, Kool Fm. There, he was a resident for over 2 years, MC-ing alongside UK veterans Skibbadee, MC Dett, MC Shabba and Fearless, as well as playing at some now legendary raves including Roast, Fever, One Nation and Telepathy.
But with the ever-evolving landscape of the DnB scene, Carni felt the only way he could develop his talent as an artist would be to migrate down-tempo towards Hip-hop and put in some serious studio time.
While working on his debut album, Carni set about showcasing his skills to the UK underground and in summer '06, put out his first mixtape - London's Burning Chapter 1. LB1 was so well received that it quickly sold out and reached 5000 units in a matter of weeks.
The following summer, the hotly awaited sequel "LB Chapter 2" - which featured the booming vocal of UK Producer/DJ Stephen "Tha 4orce" Ellington, of Da Ali G Show and MTV fame - was released and this second instalment surpassed the first, selling over 10,000 units without a distribution deal in sight!
For the last to years Carni perfecting his album material and the result is pretty impressive, with some of the UK’s finest producers assembled to supply the beats - including Tha 4orce, Harry Love, Mampi Swift and DJ Ramsey, along with collaborations with internet sensation and teen idol Teezy, and Funky House vocalist Courtney Dennie – The Monopoly is inevitable!
