History

Re:Connect Records was originally set up to showcase the tougher side of “big system” breaks, kicking off in 2003 with Spanish producers SFX Beats mighty tune “Serious Sound”. From then the label championed this sound through building up the roster, and putting out further releases from High Eight, Transformer Man, and Madam Breaks.

In 2004 the label discovered Merka, aka Mark Ford, who brought to the table a huge release in the form of Holding On & Flabbo, a two-tracker showing off his awesome production, and skills with a Bass Station. Holding On was licensed for the Freestylers’ Fabric Compilation and was a huge hit within the breaks community. Second releases from SFX Beats (Carnival / Hungry) and High Eight (Open Your Eyes / Thru Time) kept the quality high and the release schedule flowing into 2005, when the label were lucky enough to release two fantastic tracks from Greece-based producer Etostone. ID is probably best known for his work with Baobinga and their Big Monster project on Fat! Records. The debut album caused a huge stir back at the beginning of the year, and their remixes of Rico Tubbs’ ‘Knuckle Sandwich’ on Menu, and more recently their huge remix of Stanton Warriors ‘Blaze’ on Punks have well and truly set them up as names to watch. We’re very proud to have one of ID’s first solo works on the label, and it’s an absolute monster of a tune!

As well as the Zinc-styled original, ID’s also furnished us with his own ‘House Mix’, which keeps things fairly breaky, with a solid 4/4 kick and a huge bassline which twists and turns as the tune flows on.

Rounding off the package is an acid-flavoured breaks remix from label boss High Eight. On this one the original bassline is filtered and chopped up providing a driving midrange synth line, and laid over a new bubbly bouncing bassline and crisp beats. High Eight keeps an old skool flavour with a classic break thrown in and a rising 303 line for good measure.
