Two (soon-to-be) graduates from Edinburgh University have come up with an innovative way to help pass the time on the 800+ hour charity rally from London to Ulaan Baatar (the capital of Mongolia). The 'driven' (yes, we went there) individuals have asked DJs the world over to donate a one hour mixtape and a small charitable contribution in the hope it will alleviate the boredom of the journey, raise the profile of the event and promote some great music.
The duo look set to have some epic mixtapes to keep the synapses firing as they traverse some of the world's most desolate areas. They've managed to secure donations from dance stalwarts such as Aquasky, Brodinski, NAPT and Krafty Kuts, among others.
The Mongolia Charity Rally kicks off on July 11 in London, in collaboration with the largest naadam (Mongolian festival to you and me) the city has ever seen. There's still time for more DJs to get involved, though, and the Mixtape Marathon team are still calling for submissions - apparently open to anything - with the notable exception of 'whale mating calls'.
All the mixes will be available to stream and download from here for a year after the trip finishes. Let's just hope that after all that driving they're not too 'exhausted'...
Here's some footage of the 2008 rally to whet your appetite.
