Bustin’Out. New Wave to New Beat: The Post Punk Era 1979-1981
'Bustin'Out. New Wave to New Beat: The Post Punk Era 1979-1981' is quite a mouthfull of a title for a compilation - Rivmixx challenges anyone to get their mouth around that one. It is, however, the first compilation in the New Wave to New Beat series, compiled by DJ Mike Maguire and released by label Year Zero.
'The Post Punk Era' (abbreviating preferable here) features everything from new wave poster boy himself, Gary Numan and Tubeway Army with the title track of their breakthrough album 'Replicas'; French worldbeat artist Lizzy Mercier Descloux covering Arthur Brown's 'Fire' in her own distinctive style; electronic group Moev with their infectious track 'Cracked Mirror'; to the disco-tastic 'Bustin'Out' by Material feat. Nona Hendryx and many more gems just like those on the rest of the album.
The album perfectly represents the birth of electronic music and the influence it's had on pop music since. As electro pop has inserted its way back into our consciousness of late, releasing this record is a good way of demonstrating the scope of electronic music's early days. Each track has carefully been handpicked to tell New Wave to New Beat's story - telling you this is what music should be, no holds barred, experimental, punky sonic heaven.
We dig Mr. Maguire!
